Veteran BJP Leader and former Union Minister Jaswant Singh’s son and Rajasthan BJP MLA Manvendra Singh on Wednesday dumped the Bhartiya Janta Party and joined the Congress.

While speaking to the local media Manvendra said, “ I met Rahul Gandhi in the morning today and he welcomed me into the Party. I have confidence that my supporters will continue to support me."

MLA from Sheo in Barmer, Manvendra Singh had announced in September that he was quitting the BJP. He was formally inducted into the Congress in the presence of party President Rahul Gandhi and Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot.

Congress General Secretary Ashok Gehlot said Manvendra Singh's presence would further boost the Congress fortunes in the Assembly polls.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, “Vasundharaji (CM Vasundhara Raje) and the BJP should introspect because people who worked for the BJP for decades are feeling suffocated, and people like Ghanshyam Tiwari (who left BJP to form his own party) and Manvendraji are forced to leave the party.”

According to media reports, It is speculated that Singh may be fielded for general election from Jodhpur whereas his wife Chitra Singh may be given a ticket from Shiv constituency which Singh represents currently.

Rajasthan's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore claimed Singh's decision is a political misstep and he should have thought before switching sides. The Congress is helpless. Therefore it is adopting sidelined BJP leaders. It is his personal decision but this is a politically wrong decision.
