Bhiwandi: Rahul Gandhi Pleads Not Guilty In RSS Defamation Case, Charges Framed

Charges have been framed against Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the RSS defamation case for accusing RSS of killing Mahatma Gandhi. The court after the hearing on Tuesday morning has framed charges under section 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code.

The hearing of the case commenced at 11 AM at the Bhiwandi Court, Thane in Mumbai. Rahul Gandhi has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges in the defamation case.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday morning before his hearing at the magistrate court in Bhiwandi in the defamation case filed by a worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Gandhi received a warm welcome by the party workers upon his arrival in the state.


According to media reports, Rahul Gandhi has admitted to the charges and has said that he said the things he is accused of.


The defamation suit was filed in 2014 by RSS worker Rajesh Kunte in reference to Rahul’s speech in May 2014. In the speech, Gandhi said, “The RSS people had killed Mahatma Gandhi.”

The court had summoned the Congress party president on 2nd May this year. The Congress party president is on a two-day visit to the state of Maharashtra. Rahul is also expected to hold a rally in the state during his visit in the state.
