The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the Bhima Koregaon violence case till Monday, September 17.

A three judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra and comprising of Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice AM Khanwilkar was hearing the matter. The PIL in the case was filed by Romila Thapar and four others over the arrest of five activists in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence.

The court without giving any relief to the arrested activists upheld it’s order and hence continuing the house arrest until the next hearing.

Senior Counsel Anand Grover appearing for arrested advocate Surendra Gadling while producing a document said, “It is the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s speech, we have put it on affidavit that the advocate was threatened, ’You will be next’, it was said, the lawyer is in hospital and wants to argue his case but is not being allowed.”

Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, “Their cases are being examined in respective jurisdictional courts. When a lawyer is arrested, we know how to treat him”, submitted Mehta.”

Quickly responding to ASG Mehta, Grover said, “No, you do not! Just because he appeared for Saibaba, he is being treated like a third-grade criminal”, argued Mr. Grover.”

The Court, however, adjourned the case to enable the parties to file additional documents.
