Assam: 2 Women Dead In Train Toilets In 36 Hours , Police Suspects Serial Killer

Two women were found dead in the train toilets over a period of 36 hours. The second dead body was found on Wednesday.

Earlier in the first case, a 21-year-old student was found strangled in the toilet of a differently abled reserved compartment of the New Tinsukia-Rangiya Express on Tuesday morning. A sweeper discovered the dead body at around 9 in the morning. According to reports, the victim was on her way to see her uncle in Golghat.

The police said, “There were ligature marks on the body, the marks suggest that she was strangled, she also bled from her nose.”

The police further told that the compartment was empty and there were no witnesses whose statement could be recorded. A gamosa (traditional Assamese towel) was recovered from the crime scene.

The second incident took place the very next day, the body of a middle-aged woman was recovered from the toilet of a compartment reserved for the differently abled of the Awadh-Assam Express Jorhat’s Mariani Junction. The case looked quite similar to the previous one as here also a gamosa was recovered.

“The woman had probably been dead for over an hour before her body was discovered by another passenger,” said the railway police.

Special DGP Railways of Assam while speaking exclusively to News World India said, “The cases are still under investigation and a special investigation team (SIT) has been formulated to probe the case.”

He further said, “All efforts are on to nab the killers. “We have deployed 11 quick response teams all across the state to prevent such incidents.”
