69th Republic Day: 9 ASEAN Leaders Arrive In India, 10th Expected Tomorrow

This Republic Day will witness the presence of 10 heads of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) along with 700 students across the guest countries, performing at the event. 

The chief guests at the ceremony will be the heads of the ASEAN nations, namely, Thailand PM General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Vietnam PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Indonesia President Joko Widodo, Malaysia PM Dato Sri Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong, Myanmar State Councillor Aung San Suu Kyi, Cambodia PM Hun Sen, Laos PM Thongloun Sisoulith, and Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah. 

On Wednesday, leaders from 9 ASEAN nations arrived in Delhi, and the Indonesian President is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. The significance of the ASEAN leaders attending the event is that ASEAN completes 50 years of formation and that India completes 25 years of its partnership with the group.

Massive preparations have been made in Delhi by 100-odd government agencies. 

Women are nowhere lacking these days, 113 women from the Border Security Force will also perform stunts on motorcycles to glorify a women’s strength and boldness.

The ASEAN flag will fly in the sky over Rajpath for the first time this Republic Day.
