The release of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan from detention after he was sentenced to jail for 5 years in the black buck poaching case came as a welcome for his fans, but also likely frustrated Rajasthan's Bishnoi community.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang of Rajasthan reportedly ordered the murder of Salman Khan, for which wanted gangster Sampat Nehra conducted reconnaissance in Mumbai as well, Haryana police said on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Nehra, who was arrested in Hyderabad earlier this week, had reportedly been working on a plan to kill Salman Khan and had taken photographs of the actor's home and routes leading to it on his mobile phone.

"In the first week of May, Sampat Nehra was in Mumbai and surveyed the house of Salman Khan and the time when he comes out in the balcony of his house to wave to his fans. He tried to find out the distance to the balcony and had even taken few photographs of the house," said Satheesh Balan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Haryana Special Task Force.

Nehra is wanted in over a dozen cases of murder, extortion and robbery and was a sharpshooter with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang which had threatened to kill Salman Khan in January.

In April, Salman had been sentenced to 5 years in jail for killing 2 endangered black bucks in 1998 while shooting for the film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain', but was released on bail after spending two nights in prison.

Nehra and his gang were also reportedly involved in the attempted murder of an INLD leader's brother, demanding a ransom Rs. 3 crore from a businessman in Chandigarh and killing a man after looting his SUV at gun point in Kurukshetra.
