An Army jawan identified as Sepoy Jagsir Singh was killed along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire on forward Indian positions during the early hours of Sunday.

Sources say that the firing from across the border began around 3:50 AM and lasted for nearly 5 minutes.

The ceasefire violation along the LoC comes on the same day that 3 terrorists attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) training centre in Lethpora area of Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terrorists hurled grenades into the training centre of the 185 Battalion of the CRPF and then opened fire resulting in the encounter. During the encounter, a total of 4 CRPF jawans were martyred and another 3 were injured while 3 terrorists were neutralised.

The dual incidents in Kashmir come less than 24 hours after Army Chief General Bipin Rawat visited forward posts in the Rajouri district, exhorting troops to “remain vigilant and ever-ready”. During the visit, General Rawat was briefed in detail about the actions undertaken to ensure a robust counter-infiltration grid.
