Armed Forces Flag Day: To Commemorate The 'Supreme Sacrifices' Made By Our Soldiers

The Indian Armed Forces Flag Day is observed every year on December 7 since 1949 to pay homage to the soldiers, airmen and sailors of the country.

The Day is intended to honour the martyr, to salute the veterans and the brave and to enhance the traditional bonds that exist between citizens of the country and the Armed Forces.

For the welfare of veterans, disabled soldiers, war widows and dependents of those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and also for the rehabilitation of the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) community, the Armed forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF) has been constituted by the government.

On this day collection of funds from people for welfare indian personnel takes place.

The Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement also celebrated the day  at Raj Bhavan.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also extended greetings to people of the state on the eve of the Armed Forces Flag Day.

Exhorting people to come out with voluntary donations for the Flag Day Fund to mark the occasion on December 7, Khattar said the money would be utilised for the rehabilitation of families of soldiers martyred in wars, serving soldiers and ex-servicemen and welfare of their dependents.

P B Acharya, Governor of Nagaland also shared a message to all the members of Armed Forces, Ex-servicemen and their families said, “Armed Forces Flag Day is observed in recognition of services rendered by Armed Forces personal in the defense of the motherland and to convey solidarity.”

Several politicians, artists, sportsperson and actors took to their twitter accounts to spread awareness among people and pay homage to the soldiers and martyrs.
