In an incident eerily similar to the murder of Class 2 student Pradyuman Thakur who was murdered with a knife in his school bathroom last year allegedly by a school senior, a Class 1 student in Lucknow was stabbed with a knife by a senior, but luckily survived the attack.

The attack on 7-year-old Hrithik Sharma, a Class 1 student of the Brightland Inter College school in Triveninagar, Lucknow, took place on Tuesday, but came to light only after the hospital authorities revealed to the public.

According to reports, Hrithik was attacked by a senior girl student with a knife in his school toilet, sustaining stab wounds in his chest and abdomen and was locked inside the toilet by the girl, with a piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth.

A teacher, Amit Singh Chauhan, heard Hrithik's cries and found him in a pool of blood, rushing him to a private hospital where doctors referred him to King George's Medical University (KGMU) hospital.

The police was informed of the incident only after reporters reached the trauma centre, due to which the district inspector of schools issued a showcause notice to the school for not informing the police on time.

The boy gave a statement to the police on Wednesday, saying that the senior girl while beating him said she was doing so to get the school to close early.

"A didi with boy-cut hair called me, saying a teacher had asked for me. She took me to the bathroom and slapped me. Then she attacked me with a sharp object," Hrithik said to the police.

"When I asked didi why she was beating me, she said: I want the school to declare an early closure today," he added.

A 12-year-old Class VI girl student of the same school has been taken into questioning after Hrithik identified her with the help of a photograph.

The main accused in the murder of Class 2 student Pradyuman Thakur which took place on September 8, 2017, is a Class 11 student whose motive was reportedly to delay/cancel impending exams, and parent-teacher meetings.
