In the wake of an article published on 'The Wire' news website alluding to corruption by BJP national president Amit Shah's son Jay Shah, Jay has filed a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against the author of the article, the website's editor and owner. While filing the suit, Jay warned others against 'republishing or rebroadcasting' saying that those who do so will also face liability.

The article in question 'The Golden Touch of Jay Amit Shah' described the rapid rise in success of the Temple Enterprise Private Ltd company of which Jay Shah is a director. Citing filings made with the Registrar of Companies, the article said that the turnover of the company grew by a massive 16,000 times. In 2014-15 the turnover of Temple Enterprise was Rs 15,000 which grew to Rs 80.5 crore in 2015-16.

Responding to the allegations in a statement, Jay said, "The article makes false, derogatory and defamatory imputation against me by creating in the minds of right-thinking people an impression that my business owes its 'success' to my father Shri Amitbhai Shah's political position... My businesses are fully legitimate and conducted in a lawful manner on commercial lines, which is reflected in my tax records, and are through banking transactions."

In the aftermath of the article, the Congress and AAP have demanded an enquiry into the business dealings of Jay Shah, while Railway Minister Piyush Goyal launched a defence of Jay.

"There is absolutely no substance in the article. We reject all allegations against Jay Shah," Goyal said.
