Attacking Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi over his recent foreign visit, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah on Monday said that if he dreams of Gujarat, he should visit Porbandar not Italy.

On his Gujarat visit before the 2019 Assembly Elections in the state, Shah addressing a gathering in Porbandar said, "Rahul should wear Gujarati spectacles and not the ones made in Italy, then he will see the development in Gujarat."

He said, "If Rahul dreams of Gujarat, then to realise those dreams, he must visit Porbandar and not Italy".

The BJP president's visit to Gujarat comes as the party starts its election campaign in the state.

Amit Shah had on Sunday kicked off BJP's mass outreach initiative 'Gujarat Gaurav Yatra' boasting about Gujarat's achievement in the 20-years of BJP government leadership in the state.

Launching the yatra from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's native place Karamsad in Gujarat, Shah said, "The BJP today launches Gujarat Gaurav Yatra from the same land of Sardar Patel from where he raised the voice of the farmers and started the work to unify the country."

Announcing the election will be conducted in the first week of December this year, Shah kicked off his campaign in the state.

The BJP president will conduct the yatra till October 15 during which he will address 138 'jan sabhas' across the state. The campaign will be held in two tours, one led by the state's deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel while the other will be led by Gujarat BJP president Jitubhai Vaghani.

Earlier, Congress VP Rahul Gandhi had held a three-day visit to Saurashtra hoping to gain strength in the state after reports of public disagreements with the in-power party.
