Delhi's Patiala House Court on Thursday has extended the interim protection of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram till 26 November in the Aircel-Maxis money laundering case filed by the Central Beaureu of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The next hearing of the case will be on November 26, the Court said.

The Court had on October 8 extended the interim protection to Chidambaram and his son till November 1 and scheduled the hearing of the matter for today.

The ED and CBI are investigating Karti Chidambaram's alleged role in getting Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance for the Aircel-Maxis deal in 2006 when his father P Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister.

The ED on October 31 had opposed Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail plea and sought custodial interrogation of the former finance minister in the case, alleging that he was not cooperating in the investigation.

The ED had also said, "Grant of anticipatory bail at this stage would be highly detrimental to the investigation."

In September the Supreme Court had asked the CBI and ED to complete their investigation in all the 2G spectrum cases and related cases arising out of it including the Aircel-Maxis deal.

The apex court has given a deadline of three months to complete the investigation.
