Air Hostess Dies After Falling Off From 4th Floor Of Delhi Building, Family Alleges Murder For Dowry

An air hostess died after falling from the fourth floor of her house in South Delhi’s Panchsheel Park on Friday. The family of the deceased later alleged that the girl was being harassed and tortured by her husband and in-laws.

The deceased has been identified as Anissia Batra. She was the daughter of a retired Indian Army Major General and worked for German airline carrier Lufthansa.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Romil Baaniya told the media that a case is registered under section 304B of the Indian Penal Code at the Hauz Khas police station.

DCP Baaniya said, “After we got a complaint from the victim’s family that her husband would harass her, we filed an FIR under IPC section 304B. Since it’s been less than seven years since they got married, an SDM inquiry has been initiated.”

Karan Batra, Anissa’s brother told an English daily that she was regularly beaten up by her husband and his family members. "Singhvi would hit my mother as well. Sometimes my sister would be left locked out of the house," he said.

DCP told the media, “Singhvi has told us that around 4:30 pm on Friday, he received a message from his wife who informed him that she is going to jump to her death. He ran to the terrace but, the door was closed from the outside, he used a stick to unlock the door. However, he could not find his wife on the terrace. He then ran downstairs where a labourer informed him that a woman had jumped down.”

Videographic Post Mortem & Latest Recoveries

According to media reports, the family of the victim wasn’t satisfied with the preliminary investigation as the post-mortem was not videographed.

While speaking to News World India on Monday, DCP Romil Banniya said that the forensics team is at the moment recreating the crime scene at the place of incident. The post-mortem will be duly videographed.

He further said that the BMW of the alleged, a diamond ring of the deceased and the mobile phones of both have been seized.

A notice has been issued to the alleged and his parents and other witnesses to join the investigation. He also said that the bank account details of the alleged and deceased have been sought and the same will be seized.
