The Student Wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday swept away the Student Union Polls at the University of Hyderabad after winning all six office bearer seats.

The ABVP fought the polls in an alliance with the Other Backward Classes Federation (OBCF) and the Sevalal Vidhyarthi Dal (SVD).

ABVP candidate Aarti Nagpal has been elected as the president of the University of Hyderabad Students’ Union. The posts of vice-president, general secretary, joint secretary, cultural secretary and sports secretary were won by Amit Kumar, Dheeraj Sangoji, Praveen Chowhan, Arvind Kartha and Nikhil Raj, respectively, all belonging to the ABVP alliance.

Earlier in September, After the left alliance swept away the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union polls , reports of clashes between the left and RSS backed ABVP. Newly elected JNUSU president N. Sai Balaji haa alleged that the members of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad assaulted him.

Balaji, while speaking to a daily newspaper had said, “I was threatened by the mob and fearing my safety some students asked me to sit inside the PCR vehicle that had been called. However, the mob led by Ashutosh Mishra and Saurabh Sharma stopped the PCR vehicle and got a ABVP student to sit beside me. These two students were repeatedly stopping the PCR and threatening me. To my surprise, Saurabh Sharma stopped the PCR between Jhelum and Sutlej (hostels) and the ABVP student sitting inside the PCR van opened the door. Upon opening, more threats were given to me and I was physically assaulted inside the PCR van by ABVP students.”

The BJP backed Students Union was also accused of vandalizing the counting area of the Jawahar Lal University Campus. The counting of votes at the JNUSU polls was also halted as the members from the Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) breached inside the School of International Studies (SIS), the building where the counting procedure was taking place.

Sources told News World India that the ABVP members entered the counting area and made an attempt to steal the ballot boxes. They also threatened the members of the election commission. Apart from vandalizing the building, they also threatened to burn the ballots and torch the building.

Congress Backed NSUI had accused the ABVP for alleged irregularities and cheating in the Delhi University Student Union Polls. The NSUI had said, “There has been cheating on the other posts and we will fight against the unfair treatment meted out to us. Seven EVMs were not taken into consideration while counting and we want them to reveal the data of those EVMs.”
