6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan, Tremors Felt In Delhi-NCR

A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on Richter scale shook the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan on Wednesday. Tremors were also felt in parts of Northern India including the Kashmir Valley as well as Delhi-NCR region.

According to the US Geological Survey, the tremor occurred at 12:37 p.m IST, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.1 and the epicentre was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

The earthquake massively affected Balochistan and surrounding areas, resulting in death of one child, injuring 9 of his family members in the province of Balochistan after a roof collapsed.

Delhi Metro was halted for precautionary measures because of the earthquake. 

The Hindu Kush mountain range witnesses frequent earthquakes, as it is located near the intersection of the tectonic plates of Eurasia and India.
