4 Injured As Under Construction Flyover Collapses In Uttar Pradesh

In a construction incompetence on Saturday, an under-construction flyover lintel collapsed on National Highway 28 in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. At least 4 people injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

The rescue operation is underway as still around 2 people trapped under the debris.

The injured were labourers working at the site when an iron beam supporting the flyover collapsed.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the local administration for immediate rescue operation and to maintain a smooth flow of traffic.

The collapsed portion was being constructed by contractors directly employed by the road transport and highways ministry.

According to reports in media, people with direct knowledge of the matter said almost 60 percent of the construction work was complete and local administration had inspected the construction work last week.

District magistrate Raj Shekhar said, "District administration has informed NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) and has asked them to look into the issue immediately and to take appropriate measures on priority."

It has been raining in the area for the last two weeks.

In a similar incident, 19 people were killed and more than 12 others injured after two concrete beams fell off of 40-foot-high pillars of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi on May 15.
