25-Year-Old From Bengal Allegedly Held Captive & Gangraped In Odisha's Puri For 10 Days

A 25-year-old woman from West Bengal was allegedly gang-raped for 10 days in confinement at a market complex in Puri district of Odisha, the police said on Thursday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Puri Gagarin Mohanty told the media, “The police have detained two people in connection with the crime and interrogation is on.”

The police further said that during interrogation, it was revealed that the woman was brought to Odisha by another woman named Kajal on the pretext of securing a job for her a year ago. However, the woman was forced into prostitution by Kajal and a man.

The victim alleged that she was repeatedly gang-raped by around 15 persons for 10 days after being kept in confinement in the house. Besides, she was allegedly forced into prostitution.

The matter came to light after some locals heard the 25-year-old girl from Kolkata crying for help from the roof of a locked house and informed the police.

According to local media reports, the girl said, “A youth named Subash Behera abducted me and held in captivity in the house, where he and several other persons took turns to rape me for 10 day. Police should arrest them and punish them according to the law.”
