24 Sexually Assaulted Girls Rescued From Deoria Shelter Home, Managers Arrested

At least 24 girls have been rescued on Monday from a shelter home in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district. All these girls were allegedly sexually assaulted.

Fifteen girls are still missing and Police have arrested the managers of the shelter home.

The matter came to light when one of the girls who escaped from the shelter home told the police, “cars used to come to pick girls aged above 15 years at night and left them back on next day.”

She told, “Girls cry on their return to shelter home.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said, “The children have been sent for medical examination. The truth will be brought out.”

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sent a two-member high-level committee to Deoria for investigation. They will stay there today and will submit a report, following which action will be taken.

“After CBI inspection last year, it was established that the Deoria shelter home center was running illegally. A direction was issued to shift the inmates and shut it. But this order was not followed,” Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Women and Child Welfare Minister said.

“On Aug 1, FIR was lodged to shut it immediately as illegal acts were being carried on. The number of children enrolled at center as per records are not present. 1 child was rescued yesterday who has filed a complaint. The investigation is underway,” she added.

CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered the removal of Deoria's District Magistrate M Sujit Kumar and ensured that action will be taken against him if found guilty.
