2 Battalions Appointed Specifically For Border Areas, Rajnath Singh Announces In Kashmir

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is on a two-day visit to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. On Friday, while addressing the media he said that two battalions will be appointed specifically for the areas falling the range of 0-10 kms from the international border.

Rajnath Singh along with Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti and Minister of State(MoS) Prime Minister's Office, Jitendra Singh met the people of Kupawara district, which is prone to terrorist activities and ceasefire violations from across the border. The locals are forced to shift constantly due to continuous violations from across the border.

While addressing a press conference on Thursday in Jammu Kashmir the Union Home Minister said that the Centre won't allow any obstacle to come in its way to ensure lasting peace in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh also announced that five Indian Reserve (IR) battalions would be formulated, in which around 5000 recruitments would be made. Around 60 percent of these vacant positions would be reserved for the people living in these attack prone areas.  

The delegation also met the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and also the local police of the state.
