19-Year-Old In Bihar Commits Suicide During Live Video Call With Girlfriend

A 19-year-old youth in Patna allegedly committed suicide while he was chatting with his girlfriend in a live video call by using a country-made semi-automatic pistol to shoot himself in the head on Monday.

According to reports, the youth, identified as Akash Kumar, was alone at his residence in Saichak and was chatting with his girlfriend, a Class IX student via WhatsApp, when he asked her for a video chat so he could see her 'one last time'.

"The girl told police that Akash cocked pistol at the live video chat on which she asked him to remove the pistol and take out the magazine," police said.

Keeping the mobile phone on his legs covered with a blanket, Akash shot himself while lying on his back on the bed around 3 AM. When Akash stopped responding to the video call, sources say the girl called his cousin who gained entry to Akash's residence through the terrace around 5 AM to find his dead body.

Akash reportedly failed in his intermediate examination last year, was associated with a bikers' gang in Patna and also under pressure from his father to marry soon and end his relationship with the girl. He was also scolded by his father a few days back who used strong language, and its suspected Akash was emotionally hurt.

Beur police station SHO Alok Kumar said that the police have recorded the statement given by the girl confirming that Akash committed suicide while chatting with her on live video. Despite the girl's statement, Akash's father has lodged an FIR against unknown persons for the death of the youth.

"The youth's father Sanjay Kumar Rai, a property dealer, however, has lodged an FIR against unknown persons for killing his son which is highly immposible looking at the locked door from inside," said the SHO.
