17 Dead, 12 Injured In A Bus Accident In Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri

17 people lost their lives and around 12 people were injured in a bus accident in Mainpuri city of Uttar Pradesh this morning.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, Mainpuri Om Prakash Singh told media persons that the bus was carrying 60-70 people and was travelling from Farrukabad from Jaipur in Rajasthan. “The bus overturned after hitting a divider in Tirathpur village located almost 25 km from the district headquarters on the Mainpuri-Etawah road, at around 5.30 am,” he said.

The ASP also said, “A number of casualties include those persons who were sleeping on the roof of the bus to escape from the prevailing heat.”

Although the cause of the accident is not clear yet, the investigation suggests that the reason behind the accident is over speeding of the bus when the bus hits the road divider. The collision led top being the bus overturned. The bus was carrying mainly labourers who worked in brick kilns.

The police have not yet disclosed the identity of all 17 victims. Those who were injured including the driver who lost his left leg were rushed to nearby hospitals in Safai and Maipuri.

The Chief Minister has directed the officers to provide all possible facilities for the treatment of those injured. The CM has announced to give compensation of Rs. two lakh to the family of dead victims and Rs. fifty thousand to those seriously injured.
