14 Naxals Killed In Police Encounter In Gadchiroli District

In an encounter with the police, fourteen Naxals were killed in Etapalli's Boriya forest area in Gadchiroli district on Sunday. The shelling took place between Naxals and security forces around 11 am in the base camp of Naxals in the area.

"Fourteen Naxals were killed in the encounter. Combing operations are still on," Sharad Shelar, Inspector General of Police, said. Police confirmed that for the last three days, security forces were conducting combing operations over a tip-off about Naxals from other areas gathering in the area.

The encounter carried by a team of C-60 commandos, a specialised combat unit of the Gadchiroli police started in the morning and is still underway in which two district-level "commanders", identified as Sainath and Sainyu of the proscribed outfit were also killed.

Director General of Police Satish Mathur congratulated the C-60 team which participated in the encounter. "This is a major operation against Naxals in recent times," he said.
