'The Difficult Conditions You Live In, Inspire Me To Work Hard', Says PM Modi At Leh Event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jammu and Kashmir today to inaugurate several developmental projects worth Rs 35,000 crore in a major push for education and healthcare in the state.

During his visit to Jammu, Srinagar and Leh, Modi will launch different projects with a focus on healthcare, electrification and connectivity. Among other projects, he will lay the foundation stones of two AIIMS in Awantipora and Vijaypur.   

Internet services were snapped in Srinagar ahead of the Prime Minister's arrival.

Modi's visit to the state comes in the backdrop of heavy violence in the state with frequent encounters reported between the security forces and militants.

Speaking at the gathering Modi said, "the difficult conditions you live in, inspire me to work hard". 

PM Modi said he is happy that changes were made to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Act, and the council has been given more rights concerning the expenditures.

During the public meeting at Leh, Modi said once Bilaspur-Manali-Leh rail line is completed, the distance from Delhi to Leh will be reduced. It will also benefit the tourism sector. Protected Area Permit's validity has been increased to 15 days, now tourists will be able to enjoy their journey to Leh. 

Speaking about the changes made to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Act, he said, “The council has been given more rights concerning the expenditures. Now the Autonomous Council releases the money sent for the region’s development.”

He further said, “Our government believes in working faster. The country has left behind the culture of delays. In the next five years, I want to rid the country completely of this culture of delays. Whatever project we begin, we try our level best to finish it within the stipulated time.”

“With the inauguration of the projects, the connectivity of this region will improve, tourism in Ladakh will increase and employment opportunities will also increase,” PM Modi added.

He also spoke about the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) announced by Interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal during his budget speech.

He said the benefits of the scheme will reach all farmers and that government has allocated Rs 75,000 crore for the welfare scheme. Under PM-KISAN, farmers who hold up to 2 hectares of land will receive Rs 6,000 per annum as income support.
