7 Killed, 21 Injured As Nine Coaches Of New Farakka Express Train Derail In Raebareli

At least 7 people have died and 26 got injured after nine-coaches of New Farakka Express train derailed in Raebareli near Harchandpur railway station, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

"6 died at the site of incident and 27 injured taken to the hospital. 1 declared dead at the hospital. There is no live victim trapped now," Sanjeev Kumar, Team Commander National Disaster Relief teams (NDRF) said.

The train derailed 50 m away from the Harchandpur railway station this morning.

The moment incident took place NDRF teams from Lucknow and Varanasi have rushed to the spot.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing grief over the accident has tweeted, “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a rail accident in Raebareli. Condolences to the bereaved families and I pray that the injured recover quickly. UP Government, Railways and NDRF are ensuring all possible assistance at the site of the accident."

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the accident and has directed District Magistrate (DM), Superintendent of police, health authorities and NDRF to provide all necessary relief and rescue.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal has also announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the next of the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh compensation for those with serious injuries and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.

"The injured people were taken to the district hospital in Raebareli. All passengers were evacuated and a special train was arranged for them. It will take around 14-36 hours to complete the rescue operation," Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Northern Railways said.

"In order to monitor the situation efficiently, drones and long-range cameras have been in use at the site of the incident," Anand Kumar, ADG Law and Order said.
