Dandruff, the skin on your scalp flaking, is one of those common issues many people face but would rather not talk about. The problem occurs due to an imbalance of bacteria on the scalp that causes excessive shedding. Now that we know a little about dandruff lets come to the important part- How to get rid of it.

So, let's skip to these remedies.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar clarifies your scalp and prevents the yeast that causes dandruff. The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH scale of your scalp, making it hard for yeast to grow. Mix a quarter cup apple cider vinegar with a quarter cup water in a spray bottle and spritz on your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel and let it sit for 15 minutes to an hour, then wash your hair as usual.

2. Ginger

It can help you become flake-free. Grab some Ginger oil and massage it in your scalp and leave in for about 20-30 minutes and then shampoo it out. It has natural antiseptic properties that help combat pesky flakes.

3. Turmeric

It helps in soothing the itchiness on the scalp and increase circulation. Add two tablespoons of coconut oil or olive oil with a teaspoon of organic turmeric and apply it all over your scalp. Leave the mask on for 1-2 hours and then shampoo as usual.

4. Baking Soda

Who knew your kitchen could hold the key to an itch-free and flake-free scalp. Wet your hair and then rub a handful of baking soda into your scalp. Skip the shampoo and go right to rinsing. Baking soda reduces fungi that can cause dandruff. Your hair might get dried out at first, but after a few weeks, your scalp will start producing natural oils.

5. Mouthwash

You probably think I am crazy for suggesting this but apparently, it works pretty well. It's anti-fungal properties help to prevent dandruff-causing yeast from growing. To treat bad dandruff, wash your hair with regular shampoo, then rinse with an alcohol-based mouthwash. Follow with this process as your regular conditioner.

6. Lemon Juice

Let's fight dandruff with the power of citrus. This is a two-step process which involves massaging 2 tablespoons of lemon juice onto your scalp and rinsing it with water. Second, mix 1 cup of water with a teaspoon of lemon juice and rinse your hair. Repeat this daily until your flakes disappear. Lemon's acidity helps to balance the pH of your scalp, which helps to keep dandruff at bay.

7. Coconut oil

It's the magical cure for pretty much everything nowadays and trust me dandruff is no different. It's tried and true treatment, and it has soothing and healing properties, it will give you itch-free head. Before showering massage 3-5 tablespoons of coconut oil onto your scalp and let it sit for about an hour. Shampoo normally.  

8. Tea tree oil

It's found in lots of shampoo and conditioners these days because it's a well known for its dandruff relief.   Tea tree oil can actually reduce the effects of several unpleasant conditions.

9. Salt

Ordinary table salt works great for scrubbing out dandruff flakes before your shampoo. Grab a salt shaker and shake some salt onto your scalp. Then work it through your hair, giving your scalp a message.
