Remember, 'Our Actions Are Our Future' This World Food Day

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on October 16. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate the foundation of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.

It is a day of action against hunger and malnutrition. The real problem, besides the factor of natural resource endowment, is the distribution and allocation bottleneck inefficiencies around the globe.

The theme for this year's World Food Day is "Our Actions Are Our Future." We should work towards creating a world where each person has access to a healthy nutritious diet. Each of us should do our part towards sustainable food systems.

Even when every individual has a fundamental right to food, about 820 million people still suffer from hunger and most of them are women and children. Hunger kills more people than Malaria and AIDS. Around 1.3 million children in India die of hunger yearly.

On the other hand, 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted or lost each day worldwide. This should not be tolerated at any level. All we need to do is not waste our food and rather share it.

On this day many charitable events and donation camps are organised worldwide. Many governments and non-government organisations arrange various activities to sensitize people towards this cause of Hunger.

Here is a message by FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva on the occasion of World Food Day 2018:

This World Food Day, let us commit to do our bit to eradicate food hunger in our community and country at large because together we can create a hunger-free world.
