Assadullah Beg Khan Ghalib or Mirza Ghalib as he's called today was born in Agra in Turkish aristocratic ancestry on December 27 in 1797.

Even if you are not an ardent Urdu Shayari lover still you would find his writings relatable.  He described love, heartbreak and unrequited feelings like no one else did.

Not much is known about Ghalib's education. A lot of confusion surrounds it, as there have been no written records of his formal education and early life.

He lived next to a masjid, but spent most of his evenings either drinking or at mushairas and still felt a deep connection with the Almighty, such was his philosophy of life.

He wrote his first poem at the age of 11 and was a master of many languages like Urdu, Persian and Turkish. Most of his poems and shers are about failed love and its agony.
