World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday in the month of October every year. The idea was coined and initiated by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts in 1939.

It was in 1963, an American insurance company came up with an idea to convince their angry employees. For this, they contacted Harvey Ras Ball, running an advertisement and public relations agency.

Harvey created a yellow laughing face to celebrate angry employees, which is today known as Smiley and has become the universal symbol of happiness.

In October 1999, the USPO revealed a special Smiley Face Stamp.

A smile is what we want to see when we look at another human being. Though sometimes we forget that. Sometimes the world seem big and filled with problems that are too hard to understand.

We start to believe that we are too small to make a difference but that’s not true we all have the ability to make a difference everyday and World Smile Day is here to remind us that.

This day is for every person on this planet no matter, what colour they are, who may they pray to, or what country they live in.

World Smile Day simply asks each person to live their life with generous heart, to do one kind act, to help one person to smile. Act of kindness and smiles are quite contagious.

So do your bit and add a few more smiles into the world!
