Navratri 2017 Day 4: Worship Maa Kushmanda For Enlightening Your Life

The nine-day Navratri festival has reached its fourth day and the devotees are soaking in every bit of the festivity. Sharad Navaratri which began at September 21 reaches its fourth day on Sunday which calls for worshipping another form of the feminine power.

Devi Kushmanda is the fourth form of Goddess Durga who as per the Hindu beliefs is the creator of the universe. Her name symbolises that she created the 'cosmic egg' by bringing light to the universe with her smile.

Her name if divided, Ku stands for 'a little' whereas Ushma means 'warmth' or 'energy' and Anda stands for 'cosmic egg'. It is believed that Devi Kushmanda supplies energy to the sun and rules the celestial body. She gives direction to the Surya, the God Sun.

Goddess Parvati is believed to have lived in the core of sun after taking the form of Siddhidatri, leading to the birth of Kushmanda. Riding a lioness, the Goddess has eight hands. She carries Kamandal, Dhanush, Bada and Kamal in her right hands whereas has Amrit Kalash, Jap Mala, Gada and Chakra in her left hands.

She is believed to bless her devotees with abhayamudra. She is offered red flowers while chanting "ॐ देवी कूष्माण्डायै नमः॥ (Om Devi Kushmandayay Namah)" while worshipping.
