On World Heritage Day, ASI Announces Free Entry To All Historic Monuments Today

Celebrating the International Day For Monuments and Sites, also known as World Heritage Day the Archaeological Survey of India has announced that there will be no entry fee into the monuments on April 18.

The offer will be applicable to all monuments across the nation and visitors irrespective of their nationality.

A message on the ASI online ticketing site reads, “There shall be no entry fee into monuments on the 18.04.2018 on the occasion of world heritage day.”

Speaking to News World India, an official from the ASI said, “Every year on World Heritage Day, entry is made free to encourage more and more people to visit our sites.”

To mark the occasion ASI and the ministry of culture have organized a 15-day programme, which will see a scientific cleaning of monuments across the nation.


Established in 1982 by the International Council for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the International Day for Monuments and Sites celebrates the world’s diverse cultures and spreads awareness on preserving important cultural monuments and sites.

The aim of this day is to encourage people across the globe to consider the importance of their cultural heritage and efforts to conserve and protect it. The theme for 2018 is ‘Heritage for Generations’.

There are a total of 1,052 heritage sites in the world of which 36 are in India.
