India is moving towards development and trying to fight the age-old evils that lurk in the depths of our nation. One of the most shameful and harmful habits that exist in the rural areas of the country is open defecation.

Men are often noted releasing their load off in open and Jharkhand Police has decided to take serious action in the matter. In collaboration with the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), the state cops are all ready to confiscate the lungis of men defecating in open.

Reportedly, the lungis will only be returned after the men do a 'Walk Of Shame' without them and pay the required fine. While many are calling the practice harassment, Ranchi's MLA, C P Singh said that it is "just a part of the entire exercise and not aimed at harassing people."

The exercise is to create discouragement among open defecators and maintain the cleanliness in state staying true to Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Municipal Commissioner, Shantanu Agrahari defended the act and said, "Public ostracism is often a good deterrence."

Ranchi mayor, Asha Lakra might not be happy with the "immoral" act but Jharkhand's CM Raghubar Das has earlier assured that the state will be defecation free by 2018, given the construction of 12.71 lakh toilets the government is planning till next year.

Many public figures are raising voice against the social evil and advocated for more public toilets. Akshay Kumar's recent release, 'Toilet, Ek Prem Katha' was based on the same hazard.
