Three militants of the Lashkar-e-Tayyabba (LeT), including two minors and a Pakistani national, were killed in the outskirts of Srinagar on Sunday, during a gunbattle which went on for 18 hours.

Five policemen were also injured in the encounter and taken to a military hospital for treatment.

The security forces launched a search operation on Saturday evening after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists at a house at Mujgund village, around 11 km from Srinagar.

During the operation, security forces blew up five residential houses while trying to neutralise the terrorists, who kept moving from house to house to evade the security forces.

Among the slain militants was 14-year-old Mudasir Rashid Parray of Bandipora district, whose photo holding an AK-47 surfaced a week ago. The trio, according to the police, was planning a big attack in the city.

The other two militants were identified as Saquib Bilal (17), also a resident of Bandipora district, and a Pakistani militant, Ali Bhai.

The forces used rockets, LMG and mortar shells during the encounter, which resulted in loud bangs through the night.

According to media reports, Security officers said that throughout the encounter, and especially after the loud bangs made by the ammunition, youth of the area gathered around the encounter site and started to hurl stones. The stone-pelting continued through Sunday noon.
