J&K: 12 Dead And 19 Injured As A Bus Falls Into Gorge In Poonch District

At least 12 passengers died and 19 got injured, five of them are in critical condition after a bus met with an accident in mountainous Mandi tehsil of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday.

The bus was on its way to Poonch from Loran when it skipped off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Mandi area's Plera. Plera is nearly 30 km away from Poonch.

Rescue and search operation is underway, while the injured passengers had been admitted at a sub-district hospital in Mandi for treatment.

The registration number of the passenger bus was JK02W0445.

According to media reports, Block Medical Officer Poonch, Syed Mushtaq Hussain said twelve persons died in the accident. "19 passengers were injured in the accident. Five critically injured patients were referred to district hospital Poonch for specialised treatment," he said.

A similar incident which occurred on October 6, 21 persons were killed and 15 injured when an overcrowded mini-bus fell into a 200-ft-deep gorge after its driver lost control over the vehicle on Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district.

Among the dead were four women and the driver. Ten critically injured passengers were airlifted from the accident site to Army hospital at Udhampur and two others to Jammu.
