Terror Attack In Pulwama Evokes Strong Reactions From Neighbouring Countries

Countries from across the globe have condemned the terror attack at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, with the US, Russia, and France asserting that they stand with India in combating the menace of terrorism.

Top US lawmakers rallied behind India and extended their condolences and support. Senator Jack Reed said in a tweet that Washington stands alongside New Delhi in confronting terror and defeating it. US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster also extended America's support.

“The US Mission in India strongly condemns today's terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. The US stands alongside India in confronting terror and defeating it.”

“We strongly condemn today’s attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district and express our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the Government and people of India,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the daily press briefing here Thursday.

Russia also condemned the attack and stressed the need to combat such “inhuman acts” with a decisive and collective response, without any double standards. “We denounce terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reiterate the need to combat these inhuman acts with a decisive and collective response without any double standards,” the Russian embassy said.

Expressing solidarity, neighboring countries Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives vowed to combat terrorism jointly.

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi and conveyed his heartfelt condolences. Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu in a statement said Nepal unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and believes that such heinous acts cannot be justified on any ground.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a message through the country's High Commission, extended her support. She said her country maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any kind of terrorist activities.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said the world must condemn such brutal attacks and take effective action to prevent such incidents in the future.

Will Hurd, also a congressman Texas and a former CIA official who had served in India, wrote, “I stand with @USAmbIndia and @rashtrapatibhvn in condemning the horrible #KashmirTerrorAttack on CRPF personnel. I spent part of my CIA career in India working to stop terrorist organizations and will continue to do so in Congress in solidarity with our allies across the globe.”

French Ambassador Alexandre Ziegler said, "Our thoughts go out to the families of the fallen soldiers." & "France has always been and always will be by India’s side in the fight against terrorism in all its forms."
