The External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj handed over the HAL made Dornier Aircraft Do-228 to President of Seychelles, Danny Faure at Palam Technical Area in Delhi on Tuesday.

The HAL made Dornier Aircraft Do-228 will enhance the surveillance capability of Seychelles to tackle maritime threats.

At the ceremonial reception, Sushma Swaraj in her speech said, “We are honoured and privileged to welcome President Danny Faure on his first State Visit to India. India and Seychelles share a special relationship. Our strategic convergence has been built on the foundation of our shared values and common aspiration. Our relationship has flourished over the years across various spheres.”

“As maritime neighbours, we are committed to securing our oceanic space for sustained development. Securing our seas will ultimately lead to creating a peaceful environment for the progress and prosperity of our two countries and peoples. It forms part of our SAGAR vision articulated by our Prime Minister – an acronym that denotes "Security and Growth for All in the Region,” she added.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday also said, “India and Seychelles need to work together as partners in strengthening the regional architecture of the Indian Ocean.”

The relationship between India and Seychelles is deep-rooted and historical and will give strength in expanding the bilateral cooperation in all areas, especially capacity building and human resource development.

India also extended a $100 million line of credit to Seychelles on Monday as the two countries agreed to work on the naval base project, Assumption Island.
