Gandhi is also scheduled to address the vast NRI community in Bahrain by addressing the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin.

In a tweet before Rahul Gandhi left for Bahrain, he said "NRIs are the true representatives of our soft power and the brand ambassadors of our nation across the globe. Looking forward to meeting and addressing fellow countrymen in Bahrain tomorrow."

Arriving in Bahrain on Monday, Rahul Gandhi met with HRH Prince Shaikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa at the Al Wadi Palace, where they spoke about sports in Bahrain in general and about competing in Iron Man. They also planned to develop sports and cricket together.

During the Bahrain trip, Rahul Gandhi would also be addressing political heads and the Indian-origin business community, discussing the state of the Indian economy, as former Congress MP Madhu Goud Yashki, reported that the NRIs are worried about the "slowdown in the Indian economy".

On December 16, 2017, Rahul Gandhi officially became the President of the Congress party, taking over the role from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who has been the longest-serving Congress party president, retaining the post for 19 years.
