The temple is located in the Muttrah area of Old Muscat, near the Sultan’s Palace and was constructed by the merchant community from Gujarat around 125 years ago. It was subsequently renovated in 1999. The temple is also known as Motishwar Mandir. The temple has three deities Shri Adi Motishwar Mahadev Temple, Shri Motishwar Mahadev Temple and Shri Hanumanji Temple.

After the temple, the Prime Minister visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, which is the biggest mosque in Oman. The mosque is said to have been built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone sculpted by 200 craftsmen from India. The main attraction of the mosque, a magnificent piece of modern Islamic architecture, is a Persian carpet in the main prayer hall that is 70m by 60m wide, the second-largest hand-loomed Iranian carpet in the world. Six-hundred women took four years to weave the carpet. The Grand Mosque in Muscat was a gift to the nation from Sultan Qaboos to mark his 30th year of reign.
