India For Israel and Israel For India, Says PM Modi

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi met the Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday, the second day of his three-day trip to the Jewish country.

President Rivlin hugged Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he got out of his car. Rivlin said he could never forget his visit to India and described it as memorable.

PM Narendra Modi told the media, “I am very grateful to the President for welcoming me so warmly. He broke protocol and came out to the alighting point to welcome me. This is a mark of respect for the people of India.”

He also recalled his visit to Israel back in 2006 when he was still the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He recited the visit when he visited the home of Israel's first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, he had a picture of Mahatma Gandhi in his bedroom.

Modi described India-Israel relations as "I for I" and "I with I". By I for I, I mean India for Israel and Israel for India. Modi also said that Rivlin's phrase "Make with India" is echoed in Israel and has percolated to all levels.

After concluding his meeting with the Israeli President, Modi tweeted, “Held talks with @PresidentRuvi. We discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to #IndiaIsraelFriendship & other global issues.”

Earlier, Modi received Rivlin in New Delhi when the latter came to India back in November 2016.

Modi is later scheduled to head a delegation-level talk with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, following which a number of agreements are expected to be signed.

He will also address a 4,000-strong gathering of the Indian diaspora in Israel Wednesday evening.

He is also expected to visit the 10-year-old Moshe Holtzberg and his Indian nanny, survivors of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Prime Minister Modi is on a historical three-day visit to Israel celebrating the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties with the allied country. Modi landed in Israel on Tuesday, he was accompanied by Netanyahu to visit the Danziger flower farm on the road from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem where a new variety of Chrysanthemum flower was named after the Indian leader.
