The Indian government on Friday called off the meeting between the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi amidst tensions on the Line of Control.

Confirming the cancellation of the meeting, Spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Raveesh Kumar said, “Since yesterday's announcement of meeting of foreign ministers of India & Pakistan, 2 deeply disturbing developments took place, Latest brutal killings of our security personnel by Pakistan entities and the recent release of series of 20 postal stamps by Pakistan glorifying terrorists.”

He further added, “It's obvious that behind Pakistan's proposal for talks to make a fresh beginning, evil agenda of Pakistan stands exposed & true face of new Prime Minister of Pakistan has been revealed to world in his first few months in the office.”

The two nations were supposed to meet on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session to be held later this month. The meeting was scheduled after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging to initiate a bilateral dialogue which was suspended in the year 2015.

Policemen Abducted & Killed

Just a few days after the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group threatened security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir to either resign or die, 3 policemen were abducted and killed on Friday in the Shopian district of south Kashmir by terrorists. A fourth Jammu and Kashmir policeman, who was also kidnapped with the others, was released.

Postal Stamps Glorifying Terrorists

The postal department of Pakistan on Thursday issued postal stamps honoring the Kashmiri militant Burhan Wani who was killed by security forces in an encounter in the Kashmir.

The postal department issued a series of postal stamps in memory of various events and individuals concerning Kashmir. The move came just a few days ahead of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Dead Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was declared a ‘freedom icon’ by Pakistan in the special series of postal stamps titled ‘Atrocities In Indian Occupied Kashmir'.

The other stamps are printed with captions such as ‘use of chemical weapons’, ‘use of pellet guns’, ‘mass graves’, ‘braid chopping’, 'human shield' and the pictures are those of militants killed in encounters in the Kashmir Valley over the last few years.
