It Will Take More Than A Hack To Keep Me Down : Syed Akbaruddin

| January 14 , 2018 , 17:52 IST

India’s top diplomat at UN, Syed Akbaruddin became a victim of hacking as his twitter account was hacked by Turkish hackers. The hackers posted tweets in Turkish and a photograph of Pakistan’s former President Mamnoon Hussain (with a portrait of Muhammad Ali Jinnah on his table).

The hackers also changed the twitter handle from AkbaruddinIndia to AkbaruddinSyed which resulted in the account losing its verification badge.

The account was later restored with cooperation from Twitter India. After getting his account back, the top diplomat tweeted: “I’m back. It will take more than a hack to keep me down. Thanks to @TwitterIndia & many others who helped (sic).”

As per the data from the Ministry of Home Affairs, more than 700 websites associated with the Indian government were hacked from 2013 to 2016. In 2016, almost 200 government websites were hacked in India. This information was shared with Loksabha by Hansraj Ahir, MoS Home Affairs in a written reply.
