People around the world recognized World Sleep Day On Friday and talked about many important issues related to getting a good night’s rest. This event is being organised by the World Sleep Society (founded by the World Association of Sleep Medicine and World Sleep Federation) every year since 2008.

World Sleep Day 2019 will incorporate the slogan, ‘Healthy Sleep, Healthy Aging,’ intended to emphasize the importance of sleep in overall health at any age. This focus is purposefully broad in meaning, surrounding the message that quality of life can be improved with healthy sleep.

Through the observation, the World Sleep Society aims to raise awareness of sleep disorders and their better understanding and prevention and reduce the burden of sleep problems on society.

Conversely, when sleep fails, health declines, decreasing quality of life. Sound sleep is a treasured function and one of the core pillars of health. World Sleep Society has compiled ten tips for healthier sleep. These recommendations for children and adults can be viewed on under resources.

Ideally, an 8-hour sleep is required to function properly. However, this may be different for everyone, depending on the level of physical activity. In case you wake up tired every day and feel the need of taking a nap the entire day, it is a sign that you are not getting enough sleep.

Sleep is the period of time that our bodies use to recharge. However, although we are sleeping, our brains are still active. Sleep is required by our bodies and brains to replenish themselves. Sleep experts call this the "sleep architecture", which is a pattern that occurs in ninety-minute cycles when we are asleep.

A good sleeping habit includes maintaining the natural curve of your spine and aligning your neck, back and hips when lying down. The first World Sleep Day was held on March 14, 2008. The day is commemorated with events involving discussions, presentations of educational materials and exhibitions, which take place around the world and online.
