World Sight Day: Know How To Keep Your Eyes Healthy

World Sight Day is observed on second Thursday of October every year. This year, the day is being celebrated on 12th October 2017. Eyes are the most sensitive part of our body, it is important to take good care of them. Now-a-days, the increase in pollution, the change in lifestyle and the diet can create problem for eyes. 

To maintain good healthy eye, one should follow the following 

Have a Balanced diet

Nutritious food like omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and vitamins C and E will help with all age-related vision problems like macular and cataracts. To keep your eyes healthy, include green leafy vegetables, fish oil, protein source like egg, to your plate. These foods also help to lower the odds of obesity and diseases like Type 2 diabetes, which causes blindness in adults. 

Avoid Using Old Eye Make-ups

The most common mistakes women make is using old eye make-up. The products should be thrown out after 3 months. The bacteria grow easily in liquid or creamy eye make-up. One should avoid applying eye make-up inside lash line.

Use Sun Glasses

The harmful UV radiance hurt our eyes just like it does to our skin. Regular exposure of eyes in sun without sunglasses can cause a problem like burning of cornea and even cancer of the eyelid.  One should always prefer to wear sunglasses to protect eyes from harmful rays.  

Quit Smoking

Smoking causes a big damage to the eye. As a result of smoking, the optic nerves start losing their power of vision and muscular degeneration happens. If you try to kick the habit away it will help the nerves to recover. Doctors say, the more times you try to quit, the more likely you are to succeed. 

Don’t Ignore Eye Problems

Eyes are very sensitive part of our body, they really gets disturbed when dust gets into them and we just feel restless till it is out. Sometime we avoid the eye problems such as swelling, pain and the major one being eyes going red. Avoiding these problems can lead to something big. If such problems persist one should consult a doctor.  

Use Computer Lenses

Due to change in our lifestyle, we spend more our time in front of computer screens. Nearly 70% of daily computer users suffer from eye strain. Use computer lenses while working. The anti-reflection coating on computer lenses reduces the harsh overhead lighting and protects the eye cornea. 

Regular Eye Check Up

Do Make out some time from the busy schedule. One should visit the optometrist for regular checkup even if you don’t wear glasses. Our eyes should be regularly examined. Every year from the age of 18 till 60, our eyes should be examined. The problems like diabetes, blood pressure and family history can affect eyes.
