Green leafy and salad vegetables are storehouses of dietary fibres like iron and contain many vitamins. Spinach alone contains a dozen different compounds that are good to consume and helps us to fight with winter problems and heart disease.

But before serving theses veggies we need to clean and wash them well in the right way, as many a time these greens are cultivated using various pesticides and fertilizers which are toxic for human consumption. So all we need is to clean it well to remove the toxic substance, germs and mud.

Here are some tips to wash your green leafy vegetables in the right way.

1. Wash Your Hands Thoroughly

The first and most important process is to wash our hands as we enter our kitchen. Before going for any cleaning business our hands should be cleaned and while cleaning hands make sure to use soap for at least 20 seconds.

2. Wash With Cold Water

Washing green vegetables under the hot water will make them wilt instantly. Vegetables should look fresh and healthy that makes them look more appealing. Cold water makes the vegetables look fresh.

3. Pick Outer/Wilted Leaves

If you find wilted leaves or discoloured leaves remove it because the water content in it will make all the other leaves the same and will leave them almost unusable. For vegetables such as lettuce and cabbage, remove the outer leaves first. You can also cut down the stems after washing, not before washing it will wash out all the essential components too.

After washing it’s important to store the vegetables properly in clean paper towels or wrapped in a clean kitchen towel in a sealed plastic bag in the fridge. Make sure to use the veggie within a week otherwise the washed veggies will get spoiled and will lose all its benefits.
