The famous Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, known as 'Mahamana' may have died 71 years ago, however, his contributions to the nation have not been forgotten. An educationist and politician, a two-time president of the Indian National Congress and the founder of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi in 1916, Mahamana died in 1946.

Awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award posthumously in 2014, Mahamana's lasting legacy is the BHU which is the largest residential university in Asia.

The extraordinary life of Mahamana has been featured in the first episode of News World India's documentary series 'Biography' of little-known facts on the lives of great personalities.
