‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ Film Director Vijay Gutte Booked For Rs 34 Crores GST Fraud

Vijay Gutte, director of the film, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ has been arrested by the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (GSTI) in Mumbai for allegedly submitting fake invoices worth Rs 34 crores, media reported on Friday.

According to reports in media, Gutte has been booked under the Section 132 (1) (c) of the CGST Act, which pertains to wrongful availment of input tax credit using bogus bills and invoices.

Input credit is a facility in GST which means at the time of paying tax on output, a taxpayer can reduce the tax already paid on inputs.

According to the report, Gutte’s firm, VRG Digital Corporation was involved in circular trading and had fraudulently claimed input credit with the help of false invoices.

Gutte has been sent to judicial custody at Arthur Road jail till August 14, the report said.

The Accidental Prime Minister is a political drama and a biopic of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Gutte is making his directorial debut with the film starring veteran actor Anupam Kher who is playing the titular role.

The movie written by Manoj Tewari and produced by Sunil Bohra will hit cinema theatres on December 21, 2018.
