Sting Operation: Over 30 Actors Caught Agreeing To Promote Political Parties For Money

In a shocking expose by Cobrapost, as many as three dozen Bollywood celebrities, TV stars and comedians have been found to agree to make social media posts in favour of a political party in exchange of money.

The sting operation titled "Operation Karaoke" exposed big names from the industry in getting involved in this unethical practice in the wake of 2019 general elections.

“Operation Karaoke” was shown to the media at Delhi Press Club on Tuesday at 3.30 pm. The 36 celebrities “stung” by Cobrapost are playback singers Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Kailash Kher, Mika Singh, and Baba Sehgal.

Actors Jackie Shroff, Shakti Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Sonu Sood, Ameesha Patel, Mahima Chaudhry, Shreyas Talpade, Puneet Issar, Surendra Pal, Pankaj Dheer and his son Nikitin Dheer, Tisca Chopra, Deepshikha Nagpal, Akhilendra Mishra, Rohit Roy, Rahul Bhat, Salim Zaidi, Rakhi Sawant, Aman Verma, Hiten Tejwani and his wife Gauri Pradhan, Evelyn Sharma, Minissha Lamba, Koena Mitra, Poonam Pandey, and Sunny Leone.

Comedians Raju Srivastava, Sunil Pal, Rajpal Yadav, Upasana Singh, Krushna Abhishek, and Vijay Ishwarlal Pawar and choreographer Ganesh Acharya and dancer Sambhavana Seth.

The reporters, acting as agents working on behalf of the Congress, the BJP or the Aam Aadmi Party, made an offer to pay 10-20 percent of the decided sum in cheque or bank transfer, and the rest through cash, which the celebrities accepted.

The celebrities also offered to personally tweak the content to make it look more like their own genuine opinion. The report also suggested that Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi, Raza Murad, and Saumya Tandon were the ones who said no to the proposals.
