Director Rajkumar Hirani was alleged by a nearly 30 years younger unnamed woman of sexually assaulting her on more than one occasion on Sunday.

Sharman Joshi came in defence of the director on Monday and said that he stands by Rajkumar Hirani, who has been accused of sexual assault by a woman.

The actor has called the filmmaker a man of immense integrity, character, and honour.

Sharman tweeted: “Raju Sir is a man of immense integrity, character, honour, compassion, and truthfulness, all the virtues one would imagine are non-existent in people today, someone I am absolutely inspired by and have learned from and because of whom I believe I have gone onto being a better person. All I want to say, Sir is that this too shall pass.”

Reacting on the allegations, filmmaker Boney Kapoor came out in the support of the director and said that he feels Hirani is too good to do something like this.

"Raj Kumar Hirani is too good a man to do something like this. I don`t believe this allegation. He can never do something like this," he said.

Rajkumar Hirani also responded to these allegations on Sunday. In a statement, he had said, "I was completely shocked when these allegations were brought to my notice about two months back. I had suggested immediately that it is essential to take this matter to any committee or any legal body.”

“The complainant has chosen to go to the media instead. I want to very strongly state that this is a false malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation,” he added.

Hirani is one of the industry’s most respected directors and the most high-profile Bollywood figure to face allegations since India’s #MeToo movement gathered pace online last September.
