Director Karan Malhotra who had earlier announced that Ranbir Kapoor would be acting in his upcoming film, Shamshera, has now confirmed that the dynamic Sanjay Dutt will also be acting in Shamshera. Ironically, Ranbir has just wrapped up playing Sanjay in a biopic and will now be sharing screen space with him for the first time.

Sanjay will play the vilain in the period action-drama, which is being capitalized by Yash Raj Films. Karan, who has earlier directed Sanjay in the 2012 hit Agneepath, said to media, "Shamsera is a ferocious and fearless character in the film. Therefore his nemesis, the villain had to be even more fierce and monumental in every aspect. Who better than Sanjay sir to give us that impact on screen?"

Meanwhile, Sanjay said, "My father and Yash (Chopra) uncle were close friends and now that I'm doing my first YRF film, it is an extremely emotional moment for me. When I heard Karan's idea to pit Ranbir against me, I thought it was brilliant. I look forward to shooting this incredibly exciting film, my second with the hugely-talented Karan Malhotra."

Ranbir will play a dacoit in Shamshera. In the first-look poster of the film that was released on Monday (May 7), one can see a portrait of the actor, carrying an axe and a quiver of arrows.

Shamshera is set to go on the floors by the end of this year and shooting will wrap by mid-2019.
