Sequel To Aamir Khan's Iconic Sarfarosh To Star John Abraham, Focus On Naxal Movement

The 1999 National Award winning film Sarfarosh, starring Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and written, directed and produced by John Matthew Matthan is set to get a sequel, this time starring John Abraham.

While the original Sarfarosh was based on cross-border terrorism, the sequel Sarfarosh 2 will reportedly focus on the Naxal movement and the red corridor in India.

John Abraham confirmed the reports about Sarfarosh 2 in a statement to PTI.

"John Mathew Matthan and I are co-producing the film. We are still working on the script but yes it's happening with me. We plan to go on floors next year. He is probably the only director whose house I went to after seeing Sarfarosh and said 'Man what a film'," said John.

"I'm in fact very excited. I love Aamir Khan, I'm his big fan. It's a challenge but it's a different character, different story but the ethos is the same. It's going to be very exciting."

The cast of Sarfarosh included Sonali Bendre and Naseeruddin Shah apart from Aamir Khan. In the film, Aamir played the role of ACP Ajay Singh Rathod who carried out a detailed investigation into Pakistan-supported cross-border terrorism in Rajasthan. According to reports, nearly 7 years were spent on the research, pre-production and production of the film before it finally released n 1999.

Considered to be one of the finest police genre films of all times, Sarfarosh was remade in Kannada as Sathyameva Jayathe and in Telugu as Astram.

Meanwhile, John Abraham, after the success of 'Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran' based on the nuclear bomb tests conducted in Pokhran, will next be seen in vigilante film Satyameva Jayate which is set to release on Independence Day August 15.
