Sanjay Dutt's career has been full of major ups and downs with multiple controversies surrounding his life. Portraying Bollywood's Khalnayak on screen with perfection through various phases of his life in 'Sanju' has garnered Ranbir Kapoor immense appreciation.

Salman Khan has recently stated that he wanted Sanjay Dutt to play himself in the film, especially the last few years of his life as no one can do justice to the role. When his comment was brought up during a media interaction, Ranbir Kapoor had a befitting reply.

Ranbir said, "It has never happened that a person played himself in his own biopic. This destroys the effect of a character. I knew that I will be compared to Sanjay Dutt and that is why I have tried my best to do justice to his role."

"Whether people see me in 40-year old Sanjay Dutt's avatar or 20-year old, they should feel that they are watching an artist who is playing Sanjay Dutt. It is correct that I cannot become a second Sanjay Dutt," he further added.

Salman had said, "The last bit of the film, Sanju only should have played it himself. The last portion of the last eight to ten years, Sanju only should have done it." Though he went ahead and added, "Raju Hirani is a very sensible filmmaker, I am sure he has made a good film."

Scheduled to hit the theatres on June 29, Rajkumar Hirani directorial Sanju revolves around the turbulent life of Sanjay Dutt. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, the biopic stars Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza and Vicky Kaushal in pivotal roles.
